What system do I choose

Nappy’s.eu carries several different sorts of reusable diapers. The AIO diaper, the pocket diaper, the SIO system, and the two-part system with several different types of inner diapers. An AIO diaper is a one-part diaper, which makes it very easy to use. Pocket diapers come in many different colors and prints and are very suitable for daytime. The SIO system consists of a cover with snap-in inserts. This makes it possible to put it on as a one-part diaper. A two-part system with a fitted diaper is usually the most absorbent and is most suitable for nighttime.

All-in-One (AIO)

All-in-one (AIO) diapers are one-part diapers. The absorbent core is sewn into the waterproof cover. This means that you can put the diaper on or off at once, like a disposable diaper. So the perfect diaper for caretakers and daycare! Some AIOs have hook and loop (Velcro) closure, others have snaps. The GroVia O.N.E. is unique, because it is the only diaper with both hook and loop and snaps. Moreover, it is the only AIO diaper that can be used at nighttime, for light wetting children. Generally, AIOs are prone to leakage, but they are so convenient for daytime, especially when you can change regularly.

Pocket diapers

Pocket diapers are diapers with an opening (pocket) at the back and sometimes also at the front. One or more inserts can be stuffed into the opening, to adjust the absorbency of the diaper. After use, the pocket diaper can be washed together with the inserts inside. You do not have to take out the inserts before washing. If you like, you can choose to put the inserts on top of the pocket diaper, instead of in the opening. This makes sense when your child is a light wetter or when you change your child very often, because it means that you can exchange inserts without using a new shell. Pocket diapers can be adjusted to size by means of snaps at the front of the diaper. In the video below, you can see how this is done. The waistband has many snaps, so the diaper can always fit your child well. To avoid leakage, mind out that you do not put the diaper on too tightly. The diaper has to fit snuggly, without any pressure. A tight diaper can, like a tight bodysuit, press liquid out of the diaper, which makes it leak. Most pocket diapers can be used for the entire diaper period of your child. From newborn to potty trained!

Snap-in-one (SIO)

The SIO system (also known as all-in-two) is a two-part system. It consists of an absorbent part and a cover. The difference with other two-part systems is that the inner diaper can snap into the cover. This means that they can be handled as one, so it is as easy to put on as a disposable or AIO diaper. The advantage over the all-in-one diaper is that this system is less prone to leakage, because the inner material is not attached to the cover for the most part. Also, the cover can be reused (except for those by Close) and only the inserts need to be exchanged. Only when the cover starts to smell or when stool has gotten onto it, you will need to wash it. The cover dries very quickly, so it will be ready to use in no time. The covers also fit over pre-folds or fitted diapers. SIO covers are usually adjustable and fit from birth to potty.

Two-Part system

The two-part system consists of, unsurprisingly, two parts. An absorbent inner material and a waterproof, but breathable cover. The absorbent inner is available in different types. You can opt for the fold cloth diaper that still needs to be folded. Examples are flat diapers, pre-folds and knit tie diapers. These are versatile, relatively affordable and they dry quickly. On the other hand, you could choose fitted diapers. These are absorbent inner cloth diapers that close with hook and loop (Velcro) or snaps. The fitted diapers usually come with a sewn-in, snap-in or separate booster. You can fold this in half at the front for boys. For girls, it is usually best to keep it covering front to back. Two-part systems with fitted diapers are usually more absorbent than other types of cloth diapers . If needed, it is easy to add extra boosters in the diaper too. With a well fitting cover, the chance of leakage is very small. A cover does not need to be changed at every diaper change. This is only needed when the cover starts to smell or when stool has gotten onto it. Generally speaking, a cover can be used about 4 times a day. After washing, the covers dry very quickly, so they can be ready to use again very quickly!

Reusable diaper choice

Several different diapering systems have been explained on this page. Of those systems, we carry a large range of diapers of many different brands. To make a final decision on the cloth diapers you want to purchase, you can check out our page with absorbency tables, on which you can find information about size, materials, certificates, country of production, drying times, speed of absorption and the level of absorbency. For all fitted diapers and some SIO diapers you will need a separate cover. In the comparing covers table you will find all covers with their different features. If you want to see the nappies and covers in real life or if you want to ask questions about cloth diapering, you can make a free appointment with one of our consultants in The Netherlands and Belgium.
