Reusable nursing pads

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you can use reusable nursing pads (also known as breastfeeding pads or breast pads) to catch any leakage of milk. It prevents a wet bra and a wet shirt. You put the breast pads in your bra. They absorb the moisture and often have a water-resistant layer for extra security. When the reusable breast pads become full, or after a day of use, change the pads. You can simply wash the used nursing pads in the washing machine at 40 or 60 degrees. 

What are reusable nursing pads?

Reusable nursing pads are soft pads for the bra. They are made for nursing mothers and/or who suffer from leaky nipples. They absorb the moisture, provide a clean and comfortable feeling to sensitive nipples and keep the clothes dry. The reusable nursing pads consist of several layers. The outer layer on the bra side always consists of a water-resistant material, so that the bra and clothing do not get wet. In the middle is an absorbent layer that retains the moisture. The outer layer on the nipple side consists of a fabric that allows moisture to pass through, so that the nipple does not get irritated. 

Why reusable breast pads?

As the name suggests, reusable breast pads are thrown in the wash after use, only to be used again. Disposable breast pads should be thrown away after each use. This is why washable nursing pads are an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative. Although reusable nursing pads are more expensive to purchase, you can more than earn this back because you save the recurring purchase costs of disposable breast pads. In addition, washable nursing pads breathe better, which prevents a sweating feeling and possible irritation. 

Types of reusable nursing pads?

If you have a small cup size or need little absorption, you can opt for a small size washable nursing pad. In general, it is true that a larger size nursing pad fits less well under clothing that a size (too) small.

The nursing pads are available in diameters of 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 cm in diameter. We sell bamboo nursing pads, organic cotton nursing pads and pads made of a wool-silk blend for sensitive skin.

Alvababy nursing pads

The nursing pads by Alvababy are made of bamboo with a waterproof layer of PUL on the backside to prevent leakage. They are available in size 10 cm and 12 cm. The 10 cm nursing pads come in nice pastel colors, the 12 cm pads are white. There are 8 pads in a pack, which makes 4 pairs. These nursing pads can be washed at 60 degrees Celsius and can be dried in the dryer.

Bare and Boho nursing pads

Bare and Boho produces beautiful reusable nursing pads made of organic cotton and a PUL layer on the outside. The diameter is 13 cm and they come in sets of 3 pairs (6 pads) in a cotton laundry bag.

Disana nursing pads

Disana makes nursing pads out of cotton and a version with silk/wool. Both versions are available in size 11 and 14 cm. The cotton version is made of three layers of cotton and a layer of PUL to prevent leakage. They can be washed at 95 degrees Celsius. The silk/wool version is very suitable for the sensitive skin because of the silk touching the skin. Sewn between the silk, there is a layer of wool. They can only be carefully washed by hand.

Imse nursing pads

Imse makes two different kinds of nursing pads. There is a version made of 100% organic cotton and they do not have a PUL layer. The other version is also made of organic cotton, but they also have a stay dry layer and a waterproof PUL layer. Both versions are 12 cm in diameter. The stay dry nursing pads are available in black or white, the 100% organic cotton ones are available in several prints and also in black or white. The nursing pads can be washed at 60 degrees Celsius, and can be dried in the dryer.

Kekoa nursing pads

Kekoa’s bamboo nursing pads are supplied per three pairs (six pieces) in a laundry net that can be closed with a zipper. The diameter is 11.5cm and there is a pleasant CoolMax layer against the skin. Against the bra side is a water-resistant TPU layer of recycled polyester.

Little Lamb nursing pads

The nursing pads by Little Lamb are white and available in size 11 cm and 13 cm. Both sizes are made of bamboo and there is a waterproof PUL layer sewn in between. The 5 pairs, so 10 pads, come in a small laundry mesh bag. They can be washed at 40 degrees Celsius, and can be dried in the dryer on low heat. 

Petit Lulu nursing pads

Petit Lulu’s nursing pads are available in size 12 cm. They are made of bamboo with organic cotton. The backside is made of microfleece, to make them more leakproof. These nursing pads do not contain PUL. They come in packs of 10, which means 5 pairs, and are available in white and colored.

Popolini nursing pads

Popolini produces several different nursing pads. All versions have a 12 cm diameter. There is a version of 100% organic cotton that comes in packs of 6, which makes 3 pairs. These nursing pads do not have microfleece or PUL to make them more leakproof. Popolini also makes nursing pads out of organic cotton with a stay dry layer to the skin and a PUL layer for leak prevention. This version is lightly shaped for a better fit. They come in packs of 6, which means 3 pairs. Both cotton versions can be washed at 60 degrees Celsius. The third option is made of silk and wool. The skin side is made of 100% silk, the backside is 100% wool that makes leakage less likely. These nursing pads are very suitable for women with sensitive skin. They have to be hand washed and are sold per pair (2 pieces).
