Saalt Menstrual Disc

This menstrual disc is available in two sizes. Each size has its own color. The disc comes with a cheerful storage bag in the same color as the disc. The disc is available in size S and size Regular. For most people, size M will be the best choice. If you have a low cervix, size S may be a better choice. Even if size M is too large, does not catch well behind the pubic bone or if it puts pressure on the urethra or bladder, size S may be a better choice. The size of the disc is not necessarily the same as any cup size.

The Saalt disc has a small notch for your finger, making it relatively easy to remove the disc. When inserting, squeeze the disc in the middle, creating a kind of figure-8 shape. This way you can easily slide the disc in. Make sure that the finger notch points downwards when you insert the disc. When the disc is inserted, push the edge of the disc up so that it hooks behind the pubic bone. The disc then deforms to your body.

There are small ridges on the inside of the finger notch to give you more grip. You hook your finger into the notch and then you can gently pull the disc out. When the disc is almost out, you can grab it with your thumb and index finger so that you can easily empty it. If you are unable to remove it with just one finger, you can grasp the edge of the notch with your finger and thumb and gently pull it out.

This menstrual disc can be used safely in combination with an IUD, because no vacuum is created. This disc can also be used during sex, where no blood is released. However, the menstrual disc is not a contraceptive.

The disc can be reusable for up to 10 years.

Sizes:

Size S: Diameter 56 mm, height 30 mm, capacity 30 ml

Size Regular: Diameter 66 mm, height 35 mm, capacity 50 ml

Material:  100% medical grade silicone, BPA and latex free.

Please note: Menstrual discs cannot be exchanged/returned for hygiene reasons.

Helpfulness
Nice product, but unfortunately no success with me (yet)

I (0 deliveries) have a disc (size "medium" or "one size fits most") of a different brand (which seems a bit thinner/flexible compared to the firmer Saalt) where I just couldn't manage to place it properly; the blood kept ending up ónder the disc and not in it. After about ten months of practice, I wanted to try another brand/size. I ordered the Saalt in size small and have now practiced 4 periods. But I can't get it done with this one either, for now. The instructions say to slide the disc as far as possible so it's under your cervix. It sounds very simple, but I really can't feel if I'm right. "Feel if you can feel your cervix through the disc, because then it's right." I can't, I can't get under there, especially with this fairly firm material, but also because it's just too narrow in there. In the pictures it looks simple. Pushing behind the pubic bone also seems even more difficult with this one than the others I have. It seems to move again, I have no idea if I'm getting it right, am afraid the disc will rotate and I'll "lose" the notch and not be able to get it out later (hasn't happened so far, removal has always been easy). I think I have a higher cervix but still the disc is always close to "the exit" and I don't seem to get it any further, while on the pictures it should be a bit higher. But how am I supposed to get the disc out when I can't reach it with my fingers anymore? It seems like higher math. Maybe I just need another larger size, but with my other average size disc, I just feel like it's too big and it does "cram" sometimes when inserting. I wish I had succeeded by now and keep trying, but get the impression that the discs just don't work for my anatomy. The item looks great quality (and comes with a handy storage pouch) and the idea is also super, so the amount of stars is for the fact that it doesn't work for me. Despite that, I still don't recommend against the purchase for this reason. Because every woman is different and maybe you will benefit from it. Unfortunately, discs are expensive and logically you cannot return them after testing, so it can be a pricey project to find a suitable one. If it works and fits well, I think it really is a top solution.

Comfortable alternative to a cup

It is easier to use than expected. I switched from a cup to this disc. Used it for 1 period now. Some problems with leaking and also emptying is not yet without spilling, but it is very comfortable.

Used a cup for 9 years. Wanted to switch to a disc. Chose this one partly because of the positive reviews. Now used 1 period. Did not leak! Insertion seemed difficult but went fine. Watched some instructions beforehand though. Captures a lot, didn't have to empty as often as the cup. The only drawback is that I couldn't take it out without spilling.

I was looking for an alternative to tampons and absolutely did not want to use panty liners. I had already tried the menstrual cup, but I didn't like it: I kept leaking anyway and I found the material too stiff. After some research into the best menstrual disc, I ended up with the Saalt Menstrual Disc. At first I was afraid that removing it would be difficult, but thanks to the handy notch, it is actually very easy. What I also like is that the disc is flexible: it is easy to insert and you can also wear it for longer periods. I am really very satisfied

Since giving birth, the menstrual cup is no longer leak-proof on me, so I started looking for a good alternative. This is how I ended up with the menstrual disc. I chose this Saalt menstrual disc and with it I indeed have a leak-free menstruation again. Advantages: - Does not feel it sitting. - No leakage. - Can be worn for a long time. - Can be combined with coil. - Easy to insert. Disadvantages: - With high cervix and tilted uterus difficult to remove. - Rotten mess on removal.

Always used a cup but got leakage. First disc was way too big (bamboozy) therefore ordered this one. I turned out to have a low cervix. Works great! No leakage and lots of comfort.

I have been using a menstrual cup for a year and a half, but I still find that it often bothers me because of the vacuum that sucks in to my uterus and still regularly causes leakage despite me inserting it properly. Especially that pain was why I wanted to try a disc, and I am very satisfied. Insertion is a little tricky for me because you can't "stuff" it in like that, but when it's all the way in, it's great. I don't bother with a stalk, but the notch still makes it easy to take out (even with short fingers) if you tighten your pelvic floor. And I no longer have any leakage at all! Only downside compared to the cup is that the removal is a bit messier, but it's worth it in my opinion. I think it's definitely worth a try.

I wasn't so satisfied with the cup anymore. I was hoping the disc would be a godsend for me. I have been using it for 2 months now so maybe I am still a newbie, but I am not satisfied. Insertion is very easy! There is a notch on the front so taking it out should be easy too. With me, the disc rotates a bit, so most of the time I don't have any use for this. I have leakage and don't feel confident. Getting it out is a hassle. I'll watch it for a while but I don't think this is the disc for me.

I used to have a menstrual cup, but after two children, my cervix moved a lot lower and the cup kept leaking. This one works well though! Co-decided to buy this one courtesy of the Wirecutter, where the Saalt disc came out as the best in the test.

Bought on the recommendation of a colleague. When it sits properly, I don't leak through, but still have some trouble getting it out (easily). It's not like with a cup that you pull it and it's out. Assume that this is just habituation and will soon be no problem at all... Am curious to see what it's like to have sks while the disc is in. For now, I definitely recommend it!
